The Subtle Art of Twinning with Your Kid

The Subtle Art of Twinning with Your Kid

Our children are surely a reflection of us! In the little things they do and many things they say, there’s always a reflection of the parent. And, twinning with your kid is a fun representation of this reflection. Twinning clothes between parents and children is truly a heartwarming way to show your bond. However, it doesn't always have to be by wearing identical outfits. Subtle coordination can be just as charming and stylish. It allows you to match your outfits with your little one’s, all so without being obvious.

Here are five subtle ways in which you can achieve twinning with your kid:

1. Play with Matching Prints

This is one of the easiest ways to twin subtly. Here, all you have to do is have matching prints in your outfits. Instead of wearing the exact same print, you can try using similar patterns with slight variations.

For example, you could wear a polka-dot dress while your child sports a shirt with smaller or differently spaced dots. Or, you can wear a shirt with lemons printed on it while your child can wear a lemonade glass print. There are so many fun ways to achieve this, so be creative and explore the print galore.

This way you can create a coordinated look without being too matchy-matchy. Stripes, florals, or even geometric patterns or complementary prints work well for this kind of twinning.

2. Harmonize Your Colours

Colour coordination is a subtle yet very effective way to twin with your child. There are so many fun ways to do the same. You can choose outfits in exactly the same colour. Or, you can choose outfits in the same colour family, or you can even go for complementary colours that naturally look good together.

For example, if you're wearing a navy blue outfit, dress your child in a lighter shade of blue. Or, if you’re wearing a blue top and white pants, dress your kid in a white top and blue pants.

Here, the idea is to create a visual connection between your outfits without being identical. Pastels, earth tones, and monochromatic schemes work wonderfully for this technique.

3. Use Similar Textures and Layers

Textures and layers add a rich look and depth to your outfits. And, you can totally use various textures or layers to ace your twinning game. Here, you can either use the same texture of the cloth or you can opt for similar layers, including jackets, scarves, or vests.

For example, if you're wearing a knit sweater, consider dressing your child in a knit sweater too. Or, if you're donning a denim jacket, your little one could wear a denim jacket too.

The idea is to match textures subtly. This way you can attain a cohesive but not identical look. The method of using layers works wonderfully well in colder months.

4. Coordinate Accessories

Sometimes, you don’t have to try hard at all. All it takes is well-coordinated accessories to add a twinning factor to your attires. You can use matching hats, scarves, or even shoes can subtly link your outfits. You can also use similar jewellery or bags. You can really experiment!

For example, you and your baby girl can wear the same beaded necklace. Or, if you’re wearing a polka-dot scarf, your child can wear a polka-dot scarf or hat too.

This way is especially good when you want to maintain individual styles but still be in sync.

5. Incorporate a Shared Theme

Lastly, a very fun and creative way of twinning with your kid is sharing a theme rather than exact matches.

For example, if you're dressing in a boho-chic style, dress your child in bohemian elements too. Or, if the theme is comfortable safari wear, your child can wear something like that too.

Like this, you'll both have the same vibe without looking like you're wearing the same outfit. You can choose themes can be based on seasons, occasions, or even your favourite hobbies, characters, or books/series.
